sarina

DIMINUTIVE OF:
rosaria
LANGUAGE FAMILY:
indo-european > italic > latin
ORIGIN:
latin
NAME ROOT:
RŏSA > RŏSāRĭUS > RŏSāRĭUM
MEANING:
This name derives from the Latin “Rŏsārĭus > Rŏsārĭum”, meaning “rosary, wreath of roses”, which is the symbol of the prayer of the Hail Mary (shortened from María (del) Rosario), a Roman Catholic epithet of the Virgin Mary as "Our Lady of the Rosary". The origin of “rosa” is still today quite uncertain. The theories include: 1) From the Latin “rŏsa”, associated with the word for the fragrant flower "rose". Etymologically, the word derives from the Greek ródon (ρόδον), maybe from “roe osme (ροή οσμή)”, meaning “flux of smell”. The name is linked to a Proto Indo-European root “*wrdho”, meaning “thorn (referring to a flower with thorns)”. 2) However it is not excluded that may born from “Roza”, a short form of Germanic names beginning with the element “*hrōþiz” (praise, fame, glory, renown, honour) such as Rosalind and Roswitha.

Color meaning:

Black is the color of the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, creating an air of mystery. It keeps things bottled up inside, hidden from the world. In color psychology the meaning of the color black is protection from external emotional stress. It creates a barrier between itself and the outside world, providing comfort while protecting its emotions and feelings, and hiding its vulnerabilities, insecurities and lack of self-confidence. In times of fear and uncertainty black contains the energy of the threatening unknown. In a positive state, black is seen as a restful emptiness into which anything may emerge and disappear once again. It is also mysterious, providing a sense of potential and possibility.
