MEANING:
This name derives from the Hebrew "Yehôyâkı̂yn > Yehoyakhin" meaning "established by Yahweh, raised by God". In the Old Testament it is the name of a king of Judah imprisoned in Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar II. The name was widespread in Christian Europe during the Middle Ages thanks to the popularity of St. Joachim, the father of Madonna. Saint Joachim was the husband of Saint Anne and the father of Mary the mother of Jesus, according to the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican traditions. The story of Joachim and Anne first appears in the apocryphal Gospel of James. Joachim and Anne are not mentioned in the Bible.
