Meaning:*
This name derives from the Ancient Greek “Ártemis (Ἄρτεμῐς),” which in turn derives from “árktos (ᾰ̓́ρκτος),” meaning “bear.” In turn, the name means “strong as a bear.” Artemis was one of the most widely revered of the Ancient Greek deities. Her Roman equivalent is Diana. In the classical period of Greek mythology, Artemis was often described as Zeus and Leto’s daughter and Apollo’s twin sister. In art, she was usually depicted as a young woman dressed in a short knee-length chiton and equipped with a hunting bow and a quiver of arrows. There are representations of Artemis as the goddess of light while clutching two flaming torches. Artemisía ‎(ἀρτεμισία) is a large, diverse genus of plants with between 200 and 400 species belonging to the daisy family Asteraceae.
