The name means “the adviser of the Lord, the one who carries messages or suggest.” 1) Saint Radbod (or Radboud) (before 850–917) was bishop of Utrecht from 900 to 917. He was a descendant of the last King of the Frisians. He spent his youth with his uncle Gunther, Archbishop of Cologne. After that, he served at the court of Charles the Bald. 2) Redbad († 719) was the King (or duke) of Frisia from ~680 until his death. He is often considered the last independent ruler of Frisia before Frankish domination. He defeated Charles Martel at Cologne.
