This name derives from the Ancient Greek “Metrophánes (Μητροφάνης),” composed of two elements: “mḗtēr (μήτηρ) mētrós (μητρός)” (mother, source, origin) plus “phaínō ‎(φαίνω)” (to appear, bring to light, show, uncover, reveal, make known), also present in Aristophanes and Theophanes.
