In ancient Greek and legendary Roman history, Marpesia was Queen of the Amazons with Lampedo (burning torch), her sister, as a co-ruler. Marpessa, “the robbed one,” was an Aetolian princess and Ares’ granddaughter in Greek mythology. Marpessa was the daughter of Evenus (son of Ares and Demonice) and Alcippe (daughter of Oenomaus and sister of Hippodamia). She loved the hero, Idas, and was loved by him in return.
