An ancient legend describes that Gaeta was the burial place of Caieta, the nurse of Aeneas; however, its real etymology is obscure. Gaetano dei Conti di Tiene (1480–1547), was an Italian Catholic priest and religious reformer, who helped found the Theatines. He is known as a saint in the Catholic Church.
