She was an Egyptian handmaid of Sarah, who gave her Abram to bear a child. Thus came the firstborn, Ishmael, the patriarch of the Ishmaelites. Hagar is the first character in the Bible told about crying. The Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.
