Eleucadius

The origin of this name is still today quite uncertain. The theories include: 1) from the Ancient Greek elements: “leukós (λευκὸς),” meaning “bright, shining, gleaming, light in color, white, pale-skinned, weakly,” probably a variant form of Leocadius. 2) from the Greek “Ēlis (Ἦλις),” meaning “valley.” Elis is in southern Greece on the Peloponnese, bounded on the north by Achaea, east by Arcadia, south by Messenia, and west by the Ionian Sea. Saint Eleuchadius († 112) is a 2nd-century Christian saint venerated by the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Church. He was a Greek who was converted to Christianity by Saint Apollinaris. He was Bishop of Ravenna from 100 to 112 AD, succeeding Saint Adheritus.
