This name derives from the Ancient Greek “Eustóchios (Εὺστόχιος),” composed of two elements: “eû ‎(εὖ)” (well) plus “steíkhō (στείχω)” (a row or file of soldiers, a line of poetry, a verse). In turn, the name means “go straight ahead, go in order.” Saint Eustochius (also Eustachius) was the fifth bishop of Tours from 443 to 460. His close relative, Saint Perpetuus, succeeded him. 2) Eustochia Smeralda Calafato (1434–1485) is a Franciscan Italian Saint belonging to the Order of the Poor Clares. She is the co-patroness of Messina, which is also the center of her cultus. 3) Saint Eustochium (~368–420). Born “Eustochium Julia” at Rome, she was the daughter of Saint Paula and is also venerated as a saint and was an early Desert Mother.
