In Greek mythology, Hephaestus was the son of Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of the gods. In another version, he was Hera’s parthenogenic child, rejected by his mother because of his deformity and thrown off Mount Olympus and down to earth. Hephaestion (~356–324 BC), son of Amyntor, was a Macedonian nobleman and a general in the army of Alexander the Great.
