This name derives from the Ancient Egyptian “Amāna-Ḥātpa > aimnihtab /‘umun hatb,” meaning “Amun is satisfied.” 1) Amenhotep III was the ninth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty. According to different authors, he ruled Egypt from June 1386 to 1349 BC or June 1388 BC to December 1351/1350 BC after his father Thutmose IV died. Amenhotep III was the son of Thutmose by Mutemwiya, a minor wife of Amenhotep’s father. His reign was a period of unprecedented prosperity and artistic splendor when Egypt reached the peak of her creative and international power. 2) Amenhotep was the High Priest of Amun towards the end of the Twentieth dynasty of Egypt, serving under Ramesses IX, Ramesses X and Ramesses XI. He was also vizier, or great confidant, to his master and was the first prophet of Amun-resonther. He was the son of Ramessesnakht, the previous high priest of Amun.
