Afroditė

It is the name of the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. Her Roman equivalent is in Roman mythology is the goddess, Venus. Although married to Hephaestus, she had many lovers, most notably Ares. Many folk etymologies have been proposed through the ages. Hesiod derives Aphrodite from the Ancient Greek “aphrós (ἀφρός),” meaning “foam,” interpreting the name as “risen from the foam.” This stems from the more archaic Cretan Aphordíta and Cypriot Aphorodíta and was probably ultimately borrowed from Cypriot Phoenician. Her symbols include the rose, scallop shell, pomegranate, and myrtle wreath. Her sacred animal is the dove.
