NAME OF THE DAY

Januáriusz HUNGARIAN (MAGYAR)

This name derives from the Latin “Iānus > Iānŭārĭus”. January is the first month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and in ancient Roman religion and mythology. Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions, thence also of gates, doors, doorways, endings and time. He is usually a two-faced god since he looks to the future and the past. The month of January was named in honor of Janus by the Romans. Januarius (Italian: San Gennaro), Bishop of Naples, is a martyr saint of the Roman Catholic and the Eastern Orthodox Churches. While no contemporary sources on his life are preserved, later sources and legends claim that he died during the Diocletianic Persecution, which ended with Diocletian's retirement in 305.
