In turn, the name means “the power of the Lord, the one who is enlightened by God.” 1) Saint Godric of Finchale (~1065–1170) was an English hermit, merchant, and famous medieval saint, although he was never formally canonized. He was born in Walpole in Norfolk and died in Finchale in County Durham, England. 2) Godric († ~1066) was the Anglo Saxon sheriff of Buckinghamshire and Berkshire in the 11t-century before the Norman Conquest.
