In turn, the name means “the one who is guided by God.” Theopompus (~380–315 BC) was a Greek historian and rhetorician. Theopompus was born on Chios. In early youth, he seems to have spent some time at Athens, along with his father, who had been exiled on account of his Laconian sympathies. 2) Theopompus was a Eurypontid king of Sparta. He is believed to have reigned during the late 8th and early 7th-century BC.
