He was the younger son of emperor Theodosius I and his first wife, Aelia Flaccilla, and brother of Arcadius, who was the Byzantine Emperor from 395 until he died in 408. Honorius also was a member of the Gregorian mission to Christianize the Anglo-Saxons from their native Anglo-Saxon paganism in 597 AD, who later became Archbishop of Canterbury.
