The name is still used, mostly by Catholics. The use of the English version began in the XIII century, in honor of St. Dominic. Domingo Félix de Guzmán (English: Saint Dominic, Spanish: Santo Domingo, 1170–1221) was the founder of the Dominican Order. Dominic is the patron saint of astronomers. Saint Dominic is honored in Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, and the Lutheran Church.
