In Latin (Roman Mythology), Diana was the goddess of the hunt and moon and birthing, being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals. She was equated with the Greek goddess “Artemis,” though she had an independent Italy origin. 1) Blessed Diana degli Andalò (1201–1236), sometimes d’Andalo, was a Dominican nun who founded a convent for her order dedicated to Saint Agnes in Italy. 2) Diane de Poitiers (1499–1566) was a French noblewoman and a prominent courtier at the courts of King Francis I and his son, Henry II of France. She became notorious as the latter’s favorite.
